Dr Shoab Ahmed Khan
Dr Shoab Khan received his PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology USA in 1995. While in US he got extensive experience of working in several top-notch technology companies like Scientific Atlanta, Picture Tel and Cisco System.
In 1999 Dr Shoab Khan co-founded an exciting startup named Communication Enabling Technology (CET). The startup raised US $17 Million in venture funding in 2000. CET with Dr Khan as chief architect designed world highest density media processor chip for VoIP media gateways. For his innovate technology work, Dr Khan has 5 US patents to his credit. Dr Khan has contributed 330+ international publications and a world class textbook on Digital Design of Signal Processing System published by John Wiley & Sons and followed in many universities across the globe. He is an Adjunct Professor of Computer and Software Engineering at NUST College of EME.
He is also a co-founder and Chancellor of CASE and CEO of CARE. CASE is a federally chartered primer engineering institution whereas CARE has risen to be one of the most profound high technology engineering organizations in Pakistan. The organization is catering for dire technical needs of defense and strategic organization by executing cutting edge technology including many national level projects relating to Cyber Security.
For his eminent industrial and academic profile, Dr Shoab has been awarded with numerous honors and awards. These include Tamgh-e-Imtiaz Pakistan, NUST best teacher award, HEC best researcher award and NCR National Excellence Award in Engineering Education.
He is currently serving as a member & focal person of Prime Minister Task Forces on Technology Driven Knowledge Economy, Science and Technology and IT and Telecommunication, Former Deputy Chairman of National Computing Education and Accreditation Council (NCEAC) under HEC, Board Member of Shifa International Hospital and has served as Chairman Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) for year 2014-15.
Dr Yasar Ayaz
Prof. Dr Yasar Ayaz is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at NUST. He is also the Chairman / Central Project Director of National Center of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) which is Government of Pakistan's top technology initiative in Artificial Intelligence with a funding of more than Rs. 1 Billion. He is the founder and President of IEEE Robotics and Automation Society in Pakistan and bears the honorary title of Specially-Appointed Professor at Tohoku University, Japan.
As the Founding Head of Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at NUST, Prof Yasar designed and launched Pakistan's first MS & PhD programs in the field of Robotics and Intelligent Machine Engineering in 2011. He is the author of over 140 international publications and has 3 product design patents registered in his name with several more in review process. Particularly, his research on Motion Planning and Humanoid Robotics has been cited by Top Universities of more than 13 countries including USA, Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, Hungary, Canada, China, Iran, Croatia, Singapore etc. He has won Best Paper awards for his work in Human-Computer Interaction in London in 2018; and in Soft Robotic Grasping in Sydney in 2013. As recognized by Pakistan Book of Records, Prof Yasar holds two national records for supervising undergraduate research with maximum overall international publications as well as maximum Impact Factor journal publications in any field of engineering in Pakistan.
In May 2014, Prof Yasar was conferred with President's Gold Medal by President of Pakistan for being the Overall Best Teacher of NUST which is the highest performance award of NUST that is given on the basis of overall teaching performance. Prof Yasar has been featured in Who's Who in the World, Berkeley, USA as a leading International Researcher and Academician since 2013 to present. He has also been named among the top 100 Educators of the World by the International Biographical Center of Cambridge, UK. In March 2017 the National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) Pakistan has also named Prof Yasar as one of the Top 20 Most Eminent Scientists of Pakistan. In recognition of his services to Pakistan in the field of Robotics & AI, President of Pakistan has conferred Prof Dr Yasar Ayaz with the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance on 14 August 2021.
Dr Zahid Halim
I hold basic degree in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science, University of Peshawar (2004). Has MS degree in Computer Science from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad (2007). Am a proud Pakistani Ph.D., having earned my Ph.D. degree from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad, a premier university in computing. My Ph.D. degree was sponsored by the Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology (FAST) under the faculty development program. During doctoral research, I worked in the domain of Artificial Intelligence with the uncertain gaming environments as the test bed. Until the year 2012, I was the youngest indigenously produced Ph.D. in computer science by the country.
Prior to joining GIK, I was affiliated with the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad. Before joining academia, I was with Techlogix, Pakistan Pvt. (Limited) as a Software Engineer, where I worked on technologies like, PeopleSoft, IBM Lotus Workflow, and IBM Cognos. I have hands-on experience in providing e-Services-based IT solutions to enterprises. I am an active researcher and have several research publications, including those published in journals of high repute. I have 63 research articles published in impact factor journals of high repute. The cumulative Impact Factor (IF) of my research articles is 337.846 with 41.18% articles published in JCR quartile 1 (Q1) journals. So far, I have produced 4 PhDs and 32 MS graduates. Supervision of another three Ph.Ds. and four MS scholars is in progress. Am also a PEC certified trainer on OBE/OBA and am regularly invited as a resource person at HEC-QAA and top national universities. I am leading the Machine Intelligence Research Group (MInG) at GIK where numerous graduate students and undergraduate groups are working in the domain of Data Science, Machine Learning and Data Mining, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Affective Computing. I have received Training in Human Subjects Protection from the Virginia Tech. I am also a visiting Professor at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord, France.
I am recipient of the prestigious Research Productively Award-2017 from the Pakistan Council of Science and Technology. I also have received the 6th (2015-2016) and 7th (2017) HEC Outstanding Research Award in best research paper category for the article published in IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials and Information Sciences. For my academic performance in the year 2016, I have received the HEC Best University Teacher Award (BUTA)-2016. In addition to the abovementioned three national awards, I have received intra university award, i.e., GIK Research Award for the year 2016 and secured 1st rank. Successfully completed domestically and internationally funded projects worth more than 10 million.
Dr Asifullah Khan
Dr. Asifullah Khan has more than 24 years of Teaching and Research experience and is working as Professor in PIEAS. He has been awarded the President's Award for Pride of Performance for 2018. In addition, he has received 4 HEC Outstanding Research Awards and 1 Best University Teachers Award. He has also received PAS-COMSTECH Prize 2011 in Computer Science & I.T. In the field of Artificial intelligence, he has published 120 International Journal (nearly 400 impact factor and 7,300 citations), 55 Conference, and 08 Book-Chapter publications. He has successfully supervised 21 PhD scholars. Asifullah Khan has won 8 research grants as Principal Investigator. He has been actively involved in the fields of Machine Learning and especially, Deep Learning. He is currently working as Head of PIEAS Artificial Intelligence center.
Mrs Komal Yousaf
Mrs Komal Yousaf has over 16 years of Experience Consulting services pertaining to Quality Assurance, Test Management and Project Management. Have had an opportunity to work on various Local, Regional and Global projects in cross industrial domains: Tele Communication, Healthcare, Auto-mobile, FMCG and IBM US internal projects. I have experience of working on several Application Development/Management Services and Core consulting projects, ensuring organisation's mission statement and core values are adhered upon in order to attain satisfactory results and gaining client's trust.
A Keen Advocate of brining Quality in practice in the course of project delivery lifecycle in-order to ensure quality delivery and satisfactory costumer experience, by defining Quality narrative with key stakeholders. Practicing and enabling the CMMI initiative at CIC Pakistan along side CSE Regional team. Certified CMMI® Associate and equip with knowledge on IBM PM&T Standards focused on deriving Quality Delivery. Helping the PMO teams on various accounts in streamlining process improvement on various projects to evaluate the process, quality of deliverables and assets to help teams understand the significance of aligning with CSE practices for a productive, efficient culture that decreases risks in software, product and service development.
Have had an opportunity to set up IBM Pakistan's Testing and Quality practice and bringing in quality and good professional under the wing since with varying skillsets and expertise in cross industrial domains following industry best practices.
Changzhi Li received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, in 2009. He is a Professor at Texas Tech University. His research interest is microwave/millimeter-wave sensing for healthcare, security, and human-machine interface.
Dr. Li is a Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Distinguished Microwave Lecturer. He was a recipient of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Outstanding Young Engineer Award, the IEEE Sensors Council Early Career Technical Achievement Award, the ASEE Frederick Emmons Terman Award, the IEEE-HKN Outstanding Young Professional Award, and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty CAREER Award. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MICROWAVE THEORY AND TECHNIQUES and the IEEE JOURNAL OF ELECTROMAGNETICS, RF AND MICROWAVES IN MEDICINE AND BIOLOGY. He is the TPC chair of the 2022 IEEE Radio & Wireless Week. He served as the chair of the MTT-S Technical Committee “Biological Effect and Medical Applications of RF and Microwave” from 2018 to 2019, a TPC Co-Chair for the IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Biomedical Conference from 2018 to 2019, and the IEEE Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference from 2012 to 2013.
